Washington (The COW News Digital) The United States has approved the sale of military equipment worth approximately $6.5 billion to Israel, a move aimed at strengthening Israel’s defense capabilities amid ongoing regional security challenges. The approval was confirmed by the U.S. Department of Defense on Friday.
According to Pentagon officials, the arms deal includes a wide range of advanced military hardware and logistical support systems. A significant portion of the package consists of Apache attack helicopters valued at $3.8 billion, along with modern light tactical vehicles worth an estimated $1.98 billion.
The Department of Defense stated that the equipment will enhance Israel’s ability to respond to current and future threats, while maintaining its readiness and deterrence posture. In addition to helicopters and vehicles, the deal also includes power packs for Namer armored personnel carriers, spare parts, training support, and other essential military systems.
U.S. officials emphasized that the sale aligns with Washington’s long-standing commitment to Israel’s security and its qualitative military edge in the region. The Pentagon noted that the transaction will not alter the regional military balance and is consistent with U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives.
The approval comes at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East, with ongoing conflicts and security concerns continuing to dominate regional politics. Defense analysts say the deal reflects deepening military cooperation between the United States and Israel, particularly in areas related to air power, mobility, and battlefield survivability.
While the U.S. government maintains that the sale is defensive in nature, the decision has drawn attention from international observers and human rights groups, who continue to monitor arms transfers to conflict-prone regions. Critics argue that large-scale weapons sales risk escalating tensions, while supporters contend that such agreements are necessary to ensure regional stability and allied defense preparedness.
The deal will be subject to standard congressional review procedures, although U.S. lawmakers have historically supported military assistance and arms sales to Israel. Final delivery timelines and implementation details are expected to be announced in the coming months.
As global security dynamics continue to evolve, the approval underscores Washington’s strategic partnership with Israel and its role in shaping defense cooperation in the Middle East.
