Speaking during his visit to the United Kingdom, Zelensky said that such military pressure could compel Moscow to return to the negotiating table.
Zelensky emphasized that renewed peace talks with Russia remain possible but only if Ukraine’s defense partners strengthen Kyiv’s offensive capabilities. “If our allies approve long-range missile operations, Russia will be forced to consider negotiations,” he said. “We hope the process of ceasefire dialogue can begin again soon.”
The Ukrainian leader also appealed to the United States and other NATO allies to supply more advanced and long-range weapons systems, including Tomahawk cruise missiles, to increase Ukraine’s deterrence capacity. According to sources, Ukraine has formally requested these systems from Washington to target deeper Russian military infrastructure.
Zelensky’s remarks come amid heightened tensions across Eastern Europe, as Russian forces continue to amass near Ukraine’s borders. The buildup, analysts say, represents Moscow’s attempt to maintain leverage amid international pressure and domestic challenges within Russia.
