PESHAWAR( The COW News Digital)Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur has issued a strong statement asserting that the federal government must not impose decisions on the province without prior consultation. Referring to the recent Bajaur tragedy, where innocent civilians were killed, the CM emphasized that KP belongs to its people and governance must reflect their will.
Following a high-level emergency meeting on law and order, attended by the Chief Secretary, IGP, Additional Chief Secretary, and other senior officials, Gandapur addressed the public through a video message. He condemned the loss of civilian lives in Bajaur and criticized the current counterterrorism strategies that, according to him, are damaging the trust between the military and the general public.
“The people are losing faith in this war because of flawed policies. We cannot win against terrorism without their support,” he said. Gandapur also stressed that security personnel martyred in this fight are our children too, and their sacrifices deserve full honor and dignity — something he believes is lacking under the current framework.
In response to the unrest, the KP government has announced a series of local peace jirgas in the merged districts. A Grand Jirga will follow, involving elders, elected representatives, and stakeholders, aiming to build a unified narrative and recommend a new security policy that resonates with the people.
CM Gandapur made it clear that no curfew or imposition of Section 144 will be allowed without the prior approval of the provincial Home Department. He also announced Rs. 10 million compensation for the families of martyred civilians and security officials, along with Rs. 2.5 million for those injured in the Bajaur incident.
The CM raised concerns over the federal “Action in Aid of Civil Power” regulation, saying it will be discussed in the provincial assembly on August 1. He reiterated that KP’s government stands with its people and will oppose any external imposition of authority or policy.
“This is our province, our soil,” he declared. “We will go to any length for the rights and safety of our people. No one can override us without dialogue.”
