Islamabad( The COW News Digital)The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued warnings for heavy rainfall, potential floods, and landslides across multiple regions of Pakistan. Citizens are advised to remain alert, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas.
According to the NDMA, Punjab is expected to experience significant rainfall over the next 12 to 24 hours. Areas including Murree, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, and Attock are likely to witness heavy downpours. Cities such as Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, and Chiniot may also see substantial rain. In addition, Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, and Sargodha are forecasted to receive rain, along with southern Punjab regions including Bhakkar, Layyah, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan. Authorities have warned that low-lying areas may experience flash floods and swelling of streams and canals.
Balochistan will also be affected, with districts including Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Qila Saifullah, Loralai, Mastung, Nushki, and Barkhan expected to receive heavy rainfall within 24 hours. Other areas like Sibi, Dera Bugti, Sui, Kharan, Khuzdar, Kalat, Awaran, Turbat, Washuk, Hingol, and Gadani may also face intense downpours.
The NDMA has highlighted the risk of structural damage in hilly regions due to landslides and strong winds, particularly for weaker buildings. Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa—including Chitral, Dir, Kohistan, Bajaur, and Mohmand—are also warned of landslides and soil erosion caused by heavy rains.
Authorities have instructed provincial and district administrations, PDMA teams, rescue services, and law enforcement agencies to remain on high alert. All personnel and equipment must be prepared for immediate response operations.
The public has been advised to stay away from low-lying areas, ensure proper drainage, and avoid proximity to electric poles during rainfall. Residents in hilly regions are urged to postpone travel and remain informed about road closures and potential landslides.
With extreme weather conditions expected in multiple parts of the country, the NDMA emphasizes that proactive measures and community awareness are crucial to minimize casualties and property loss.
