PESHAWAR ( The COW News Digital) Security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa successfully thwarted a late-night terrorist attack on the Gurguri Police Station in Karak district, killing a notorious wanted criminal during a subsequent intelligence-based operation.

According to police reports, between 25 and 30 militants from the group known locally as Fitna-tul-Khawarij attempted to storm the police station late Tuesday night. Law enforcement personnel, already on high alert, detected suspicious movement near the station and immediately opened fire. The attackers fled within minutes, failing to inflict any damage.

District Police Officer (DPO) Karak, Shahbaz Elahi, confirmed that all police personnel remained safe and that the situation was quickly brought under control. “The cowardly attackers were forced to retreat due to the timely response of our police force,” he said.

In a separate intelligence-based operation within the jurisdiction of Yaqoob Shaheed Police Station, police tracked down and killed Shahbaz alias Punjabi, the ringleader of a notorious gang of dacoits and a most-wanted criminal. The encounter took place near Lamraki graveyard, where the suspects opened fire on the police party upon sight.

After a brief exchange of gunfire, the suspect was neutralized, and his body was later identified through police records. Authorities described him as a key figure in several major robberies and violent crimes in the region.

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Kohat, Abbas Majeed Marwat, praised the swift response of Karak police, vowing to continue operations against terrorists and criminal elements. “Karak police are fully committed to protecting the lives and property of the people. Our operations will continue until the region is completely secure,” he stated.

The failed attack and successful operation are being viewed as a significant achievement for local law enforcement, particularly at a time when militants have been attempting to regroup in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Security forces have intensified intelligence-based operations across the province to prevent further incidents.

Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with security agencies and immediately report any suspicious activity.
