Quetta,( The COW News Digital) A suicide bombing at the Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters in Quetta’s Model Town area left at least 10 civilians dead and more than 30 others injured on Tuesday. Security forces confirmed that six attackers, including the suicide bomber, were killed in the assault.
According to security officials, the attack began when a vehicle laden with explosives rammed into the main gate of the FC headquarters on Khojak Road. The explosion was so powerful that windows of nearby buildings shattered, while several parked vehicles sustained heavy damage.
The dead include innocent civilians caught in the blast, with women and children among the wounded. Medical authorities said two security personnel were also injured. Emergency teams rushed to the site, shifting casualties to nearby hospitals where several victims remain in critical condition.
Immediately after the blast, heavy gunfire was reported in the area as security forces engaged the attackers. Witnesses described scenes of chaos and panic as residents fled to safety. Security personnel quickly cordoned off the site, preventing further damage and neutralizing the militants before they could storm the compound.
Interior Minister Hamid Khan praised the bravery of FC troops, saying their swift response averted an even greater tragedy. “Our young soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice to foil the terrorists’ designs. The nation salutes their courage,” he said in a statement.
Preliminary investigations suggest the assailants, disguised in FC uniforms, intended to breach the headquarters. Officials believe the attack is part of an ongoing wave of terrorism targeting Balochistan, a province that has seen repeated militant violence in recent years.
Authorities have launched a high-level inquiry to determine how the attackers managed to reach the sensitive facility and to assess potential security lapses. Security across Quetta has been placed on high alert, with additional checkpoints and patrols established to prevent further incidents.
No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but officials suspect the involvement of banned militant networks active in the region. Analysts warn that such high-profile strikes are designed to undermine public confidence and destabilize the province.
As families mourn the victims, officials vowed to continue operations against extremist groups. “This cowardly act will not weaken our resolve,” the Interior Minister said, adding that Pakistan’s fight against terrorism will continue until “the last terrorist is eliminated.”
