PESHAWAR ( The COW News Digital) On the directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, security has been restored for Awami National Party (ANP) central president Aimal Wali Khan after earlier reports claimed his protection detail had been withdrawn.
According to official sources, 12 police personnel have been assigned for Khan’s security. Four officers will accompany him in Islamabad, while the remaining eight will be stationed at his family residence in Wali Bagh, Charsadda.
The decision came after concerns were raised when Aimal Wali Khan announced on social media that his security had been withdrawn. ANP spokesperson Ihsanullah alleged that the move was made under federal directives, undermining provincial autonomy and disregarding the chief minister’s explicit instructions. He argued that the withdrawal of security not only violated constitutional authority but also disregarded previous orders issued by the provincial police chief.
In response, KP government officials strongly denied any reduction in Khan’s security. Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information, assured that Aimal Wali’s safety would be fully ensured despite political differences. “If needed, I will personally take responsibility for his security,” he stated. He further criticized the federal government for allegedly using “tactics” against opposition leaders.
The provincial government confirmed that a list of personnel trusted by Aimal Wali Khan has been requested to ensure his protection aligns with his preferences. The CM’s spokesperson emphasized that no withdrawal of security had been ordered by the KP government, and that continuous coordination with Khan would maintain confidence in the security arrangements.
The restoration of security comes amid heightened political tensions between provincial and federal authorities, with the ANP leadership accusing Islamabad of undermining KP’s constitutional authority.
