ISLAMABAD(The COW News Digital) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser has vowed that whenever PTI founder Imran Khan returns to power, the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments will be repealed. Speaking to the media, Qaiser questioned the legislative authority of the current National Assembly, asserting that it lacks the legitimacy to enact such significant changes.

“Does the law work like this—amend it once and then claim it is not applicable?” Qaiser asked, highlighting what he described as inconsistent legislative practices. He also criticized Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif, saying, “He calls to honor the vote but does not attend key parliamentary sessions, and suddenly appears when it suits him.”

Qaiser further expressed admiration for Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah, urging lawyers’ associations and labor groups to stand in solidarity with the judiciary. He added that PTI will hold a meeting soon to chart its future strategy, signaling that the party is preparing for potential political and legislative campaigns.

The 27th constitutional amendment was recently passed in both the National Assembly and the Senate with a two-thirds majority, a move that drew significant opposition protests. During the presentation of the amendment by the Law Minister, opposition lawmakers banged desks and vocally objected. Protests continued during clause-by-clause approval, reflecting the heightened tension surrounding the legislative process.

Qaiser’s statements underscore PTI’s continued resistance to the amendments, which the party argues undermine democratic processes and public trust. Analysts note that the party is leveraging judicial resignations, opposition protests, and public sentiment to strengthen its political messaging ahead of upcoming elections.

The political confrontation over constitutional amendments is part of a broader narrative in Pakistan’s legislative environment, where parties frequently clash over procedural legitimacy and the balance of power. The amendments, considered critical by the ruling coalition, have sparked debates over judicial independence, parliamentary authority, and constitutional interpretation.

As PTI gears up to challenge the amendments, all eyes remain on the party’s upcoming strategies, potential alliances, and public mobilization. Observers note that Asad Qaiser’s strong rhetoric may signal intensified political activism and continued contestation of the current government’s legislative agenda.
