Peshawar(The COW News Digital) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Soheil Khan Afridi has formally written to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, expressing serious concern over alleged obstacles in meetings with former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, Imran Khan, at Adiala Jail.

In his letter, Afridi criticized the continued denial of court-sanctioned visits to Imran Khan, calling the obstruction “unacceptable” and in violation of judicial orders. He alleged that Khan’s family members, including his sisters, were mistreated, and elderly women were made to sit on the road outside the jail—a move he described as contrary to basic human and ethical standards.

The KP Chief Minister outlined four urgent demands in the letter. First, he called for immediate compliance with judicial directives to facilitate visits. Second, Afridi urged disciplinary action against officials responsible for the alleged misconduct. Third, he requested that jail and police administration be given clear instructions to respect court orders. Finally, he demanded the establishment of a dignified and legally compliant system for facilitating meetings with political leaders.

Afridi emphasized that Imran Khan is a former Prime Minister and the leader of PTI, the mandate of whose party forms the basis of the KP government. “The rights of political leadership and citizens must be protected,” he wrote, urging the Punjab government to take swift action.

The letter comes amid rising tensions over the treatment of political figures in detention and the broader implications for civil and political rights. Afridi’s communication highlights the importance of respecting judicial orders and ensuring humane treatment of prisoners, particularly high-profile political leaders whose detention carries significant public and political scrutiny.

By formally raising the issue with Maryam Nawaz, Afridi has signaled a demand for accountability and adherence to legal standards, stressing that political disagreements should not interfere with constitutional and judicial obligations. The Chief Minister called on the Punjab administration to act promptly to safeguard both the dignity of political leaders and the fundamental rights of citizens.

Observers note that the incident underscores the heightened political sensitivity surrounding Imran Khan’s detention, with implications for inter-provincial coordination, law enforcement practices, and public perception of political impartiality. The KP government’s intervention through official correspondence reflects an effort to address these concerns diplomatically while pressing for immediate corrective measures.
