Lahore(The COW News Digital)Goods transporters across Pakistan have announced an indefinite nationwide strike, starting Monday, halting all loading and transportation activities. The announcement was made by Malik Shehzad Awan, former member of the Sindh Assembly and president of the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance, in a video statement.

According to Awan, the transporters had earlier issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Punjab government, demanding the withdrawal of FIRs registered against their vehicles, an end to the unlawful detention of trucks, and the release of drivers who had been arrested. He claimed that several drivers had been kept in police custody and multiple FIRs were filed against transporters’ vehicles, prompting the strike.

Awan stated that although representatives of the Punjab government contacted the transporters during the 72-hour period, no concrete steps were taken to address their demands. “As a result, starting Monday, transporters in Karachi and across the country will halt all loading operations,” he said.

He emphasized that the strike will continue indefinitely until the federal, Punjab, and Sindh governments meet all the transporters’ demands. Malik Shehzad Awan also held the Punjab government responsible for the escalation of the situation.

The strike is expected to disrupt supply chains and logistics, potentially affecting the availability of essential goods and commodities across major cities and rural areas. Traders and businesses have expressed concerns over potential losses if the strike persists for an extended period.

Transport analysts warn that prolonged disruption in goods movement could have significant economic repercussions, impacting both domestic trade and industrial supply chains. The situation is being closely monitored by authorities, who may attempt to mediate between the transporters and the provincial governments to prevent further escalation.

Meanwhile, citizens and business communities are advised to plan for possible delays in deliveries and shortages of essential goods as the strike takes effect.

The unfolding scenario highlights growing tensions between transport unions and government authorities, emphasizing the need for urgent dialogue to resolve disputes and maintain the flow of commerce across the country.
