GAZA (The COW News Digital) Palestinian resistance group Hamas has confirmed the death of its senior commander Raed Saad in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza. The announcement was made by Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, who described the killing as a serious escalation following the October ceasefire.

According to Arab media reports, the attack occurred after orders from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, targeting a vehicle in Gaza City. The strike reportedly killed five people and injured more than 25 others. Israel had claimed that the operation successfully eliminated a senior Hamas leader, which was later confirmed by the group itself.

In a video statement, al-Hayya condemned Israel’s continued military actions, calling them a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement implemented on October 10. He urged the United States to pressure Israel into adhering to the terms of the ceasefire and respecting international law.

Raed Saad’s death is being described as the most significant loss of a high-ranking Hamas official since the ceasefire was agreed upon. Local authorities in Gaza report that despite the ceasefire, Israel has carried out nearly 800 attacks in the region, resulting in 386 fatalities. Daily strikes continue to affect civilians, infrastructure, and humanitarian operations.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire. Recent heavy winter rains and extreme cold led to the death of an eight-month-old infant, highlighting the vulnerability of civilians in the ongoing conflict. Humanitarian access has also been severely restricted, with Israel reportedly impeding the delivery of aid, in violation of ceasefire conditions.

Last week, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution demanding that Israel allow unrestricted humanitarian assistance into Gaza, halt attacks on UN installations, and comply with international law. The resolution received overwhelming support from member states, underscoring global concern over the continued violence and humanitarian crisis.

Analysts note that Raed Saad’s killing may further heighten tensions in the region and complicate efforts to maintain the fragile ceasefire. Hamas leaders have warned that continued Israeli operations risk reigniting broader hostilities and endangering civilian populations.

As international attention remains focused on Gaza, calls for restraint, adherence to ceasefire agreements, and protection of civilians are intensifying. Humanitarian agencies continue to press for immediate access to affected areas to provide relief to those most in need.
