World ( The cow news digital ) India has lodged a strong protest after reports emerged that two Indian-flagged oil tankers were allegedly targeted in the Strait of Hormuz, prompting diplomatic tensions between New Delhi and Tehran, according to official statements cited by Indian authorities.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that the vessels, which were reportedly carrying crude oil, came under fire while transiting through the strategic waterway on Saturday. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime routes for global energy supplies.
According to the Indian government, both tankers were forced to alter their course and return following the incident. No casualties were reported among the crew members, and the ships were later secured in safer waters, officials said.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that India has formally summoned Iran’s ambassador in New Delhi to register its strong concern and protest over the incident. During the meeting, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri conveyed the government’s “serious concern and anger” regarding the alleged attack on commercial vessels flying the Indian flag.
Indian officials also urged the Iranian side to ensure the safety and uninterrupted passage of merchant shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing the importance of maritime security for global trade.
In response, Iranian diplomatic sources reportedly briefed Indian officials on the evolving situation in the region and reiterated the importance of adherence to maritime regulations set by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) for vessels passing through the area.
According to earlier regional reports, Iranian authorities had reopened the Strait of Hormuz to commercial traffic following a temporary restriction. However, conflicting statements later suggested renewed limitations in response to heightened tensions involving foreign naval presence and sanctions-related disputes.

Iran has not officially confirmed targeting any vessels, and independent verification of the incident remains limited. The situation has drawn international attention due to the Strait of Hormuz’s strategic importance, through which nearly a fifth of the world’s oil supply passes.
Analysts warn that any escalation in the region could have significant implications for global energy markets and maritime security, potentially increasing tensions between regional and global powers operating in the Gulf.
Diplomatic channels between India and Iran remain active as both sides assess the situation, while shipping companies are reportedly reviewing security protocols for vessels transiting the region.
