National ( The cow news digital ) At least five civilians, including four children, were injured after cross-border shelling struck a residential area in South Waziristan, according to security sources. The incident took place in the border locality of Angoor Adda, raising fresh concerns over escalating tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier.
Officials stated that mortar fire originating from across the border landed on houses belonging to local residents, identified as Karim Khan and Rehmatullah. The explosion caused significant damage to property and left multiple members of the families wounded.
The injured, including a woman and four children, were immediately shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana for medical treatment. Hospital authorities confirmed that all victims were receiving care, though some were reported to be in serious condition.
Security sources described the shelling as unprovoked and alleged that Afghan Taliban forces were responsible for targeting civilian areas. In response, Pakistani security forces carried out a retaliatory operation, engaging positions across the border that were believed to be involved in the attack.
According to officials, the response was described as “effective and proportionate,” targeting only identified military positions. Reports indicate that several opposing posts were hit, forcing personnel to abandon their positions.
The incident is part of a pattern of recent cross-border hostilities in the region. Security officials noted that similar firing from across the border had injured three individuals in the same area just days earlier.
Authorities emphasized that Pakistani forces remain committed to defending civilian populations while avoiding escalation. However, the recurring nature of such incidents has intensified concerns regarding stability in the border region.
The situation continues to be closely monitored, with officials warning that further aggression would be met with a firm response.
