National ( The cow news digital ) Pakistan’s space research authority has released its latest astronomical assessment regarding the expected sighting of the Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 Hijri moon and the projected timing of Eid al-Adha in 2026.
According to the findings shared by SUPARCO, the new moon of Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 Hijri is expected to be formed on 17 May 2026 at 1:01 AM Pakistan Standard Time. The agency stated that by sunset on the same day, the moon’s age would be approximately 18 hours and 30 minutes, a factor considered significant in determining visibility.
Astronomical data further indicates that in coastal regions of Pakistan, the time gap between sunset and moonset on 17 May 2026 is likely to be around 60 minutes. Based on these conditions, SUPARCO assessed that there is a favorable possibility of the crescent being visible on the evening of 17 May, provided the weather remains clear and atmospheric visibility is adequate near the horizon.
Following these projections, 18 May 2026 is expected to mark the beginning of Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 Hijri, which signals the conclusion of the month of Dhu al-Qi’dah. Consequently, Eid al-Adha is tentatively anticipated to fall on 27 May 2026.
However, authorities emphasized that these estimates are based on astronomical calculations and do not constitute the official declaration. The final announcement regarding the commencement of Islamic months in Pakistan rests with the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. The committee reviews verified testimonies and confirmed sightings from across the country before issuing an official verdict.
Religious scholars and meteorological experts note that moon sighting can vary due to weather conditions, geographical location, and atmospheric clarity, which is why official confirmation may sometimes differ from predicted dates.
As the expected dates approach, the public is advised to rely on official announcements for the confirmation of Eid al-Adha and the start of Dhu al-Hijjah.
