World ( The cow news digital ) The United States Department of Defense has announced new agreements with several defense manufacturers to acquire 10,000 low-cost containerized missiles, following concerns over depleted American missile reserves after the conflict with Iran.
According to international media reports, the Pentagon unveiled the contracts after recent assessments suggested that US missile stockpiles had been significantly strained during military operations linked to tensions in the Middle East. Analysts warned that restoring the country’s pre-war inventory levels could take years.
The Pentagon confirmed that defense firms Anduril, CoAspire, Leidos, and Zone 5 Technologies have been selected for the Low-Cost Containerized Missiles (LCCM) program. The initiative aims to rapidly expand the production and deployment of affordable missile systems capable of supporting modern combat operations.
Under a separate agreement, defense contractor Castelion will supply at least 500 low-cost Blackbeard hypersonic missiles annually. The move reflects Washington’s increasing focus on strengthening its long-range precision strike capabilities amid rising geopolitical tensions.
Pentagon officials stated that the first batch of test missiles from the selected companies is expected to be delivered in June as part of the program’s initial development phase. The Defense Department hopes the project will help replenish critical military supplies while reducing production costs and delivery timelines.
Military experts believe the contracts represent a strategic shift toward scalable and cost-efficient weapons systems that can be deployed quickly in future conflicts. The Pentagon has also emphasized the importance of maintaining readiness as global security challenges continue to evolve.
A recent report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies warned that rebuilding America’s missile inventory to pre-conflict levels could take up to four years due to high demand, manufacturing constraints, and ongoing military commitments around the world.
The new procurement agreements are expected to strengthen US defense preparedness while accelerating the modernization of the country’s missile arsenal.
