NATIONAL ( The cow news digital ) Pakistan’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has foiled an alleged major terrorist plot in Karachi by arresting two suspected militants linked to the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), officials said on Monday.
According to CTD officials, the suspects were identified as Mujahid Baloch and Fareed Baloch, also known as Zakir Bin. Authorities claim both men received militant training at camps operated by the outlawed group, where they were allegedly instructed in reconnaissance, communication, and operational planning.
Investigators said the suspects had been residing in Karachi under the direction of senior BLA commanders Sajid Baloch and Bashir Zeb. Officials allege they were tasked with collecting intelligence on sensitive installations and sharing strategic information with the militant organization.
The CTD further claimed that the suspects were working to establish a network aimed at facilitating attacks against critical infrastructure and law enforcement agencies in the city.
During the operation, security personnel recovered approximately four kilograms of explosive material, detonators, prima cord, and ball bearings, which investigators believe could have been used in the construction of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
A criminal case has been registered against the suspects at the CTD police station under relevant anti-terrorism laws. Authorities said both men remain in custody and are being questioned to determine the full scope of the alleged network and identify any additional accomplices.
Officials added that the CTD, in coordination with intelligence agencies, has formed additional investigative teams to pursue leads obtained during the interrogation. Further operations are expected as part of the ongoing investigation.
Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city and commercial hub, has witnessed significant improvements in security over the past decade. However, authorities continue to conduct intelligence-based operations against militant organizations and criminal networks to prevent potential attacks.
Security officials have not disclosed whether the alleged plot involved a specific target or provided further operational details, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation. Independent verification of the allegations against the suspects has not yet been made public, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities say the latest arrests reflect continued efforts to disrupt militant activities before attacks can be carried out and to strengthen security across the country’s key urban centers.
