World ( The cow news digital ) The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh chapter has announced a province-wide protest campaign against what it described as “water aggression,” with rallies scheduled under the slogan “Marsoon Marsoon Sindhu Na Desoon” on Sunday.
PPP Sindh President Nisar Khuhro said the party will organize demonstrations in all district headquarters of Sindh on July 12, following the call given by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. He directed party organizations across the province to actively participate in the rallies and raise their voice against issues related to water distribution and the Indus River.
Khuhro stated that the Indus River and water resources are directly linked to Pakistan’s survival and development. He said the country would not allow any action that threatens the natural flow of the river or affects the water rights of its people.
Commenting on India’s position regarding the Indus Waters Treaty, the PPP leader alleged that any unilateral suspension or changes to the agreement would violate international commitments. He stressed that water should not be used as a political tool, warning that turning water resources into a source of conflict could create serious challenges for regional stability.
“The Indus River is connected with the livelihood of millions of people,” Khuhro said, adding that attempts to restrict water access would affect communities dependent on agriculture and river systems.
He emphasized that the principles of fair water sharing and natural river flows must be respected. According to him, Pakistan’s water rights are not based on goodwill but are protected under international agreements, including provisions related to the use of western rivers under the Indus Waters Treaty.
Khuhro further said that the PPP would continue raising the issue at every available platform and would work to protect the country’s water interests. He called for the implementation of the 1991 Water Accord to ensure transparent distribution of water among provinces.
The PPP Sindh president also demanded a review of water flows through the Chashma-Jhelum Link Canal and Taunsa-Panjnad Link Canal, arguing that these canals should not operate in a way that affects provincial water allocations.

The announced rallies are expected to highlight concerns over water security, inter-provincial distribution, and Pakistan’s broader water challenges. Political parties and officials have frequently debated water management issues, particularly during periods of reduced river flows and increasing pressure on agricultural resources.
The PPP’s campaign reflects growing concerns in Sindh over water availability and the future of the Indus River system, which remains central to the province’s economy and environment.
