National ( The cow news digital ) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan has strongly rejected the ongoing general elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), declaring the electoral process non-transparent and heavily rigged.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the PTI chief criticized the overall conduct of the polls, asserting that genuine democratic norms were completely disregarded. He claimed that the voting process lacked integrity and was reduced to deliberate ballot stuffing rather than representing the public’s actual mandate.
Gohar raised serious concerns regarding the timing and structure of the election schedule. He questioned the decision to hold elections in three separate phases across a region with a population roughly comparable to Islamabad, noting that even local body elections are rarely stretched over such long intervals.
Highlighting the geopolitical sensitivity of the territory, the PTI chairman urged state institutions to act with caution and responsibility. He reiterated that every Kashmiri is a Pakistani and that Kashmir remains Pakistan’s core lifeline, warning that actions undermining the democratic process could cause long-term harm to a crucial issue.
The election schedule in AJK saw the first phase of polling in the Mirpur division completed on July 27. Voting for the Muzaffarabad division and refugee seats is scheduled for August 2, followed by the Poonch division on August 10.
