MUZAFFARGARH: The death toll resulting from a devastating road tragedy in Punjab’s Muzaffargarh district has unfortunately risen to 12. The tragic incident occurred two days ago when a loader rickshaw, packed with wedding guests returning from a ceremony, veered off track and plunged into a deep canal in the Kot Adu tehsil.
Rescue and emergency authorities confirmed that the victims include a large number of women and young children. The accident has plunged the entire local community into deep grief, turning a joyous wedding celebration into an unimaginable catastrophe. Rescue teams, civil divers, and local volunteers have been working tirelessly since the incident occurred, utilizing specialized equipment and boats to comb through the turbulent waters of the canal.
Currently, intensive search and rescue operations are still underway to trace and recover six missing children whose whereabouts remain unknown. Officials stated that the ages of these missing minors range between 3 and 14 years, raising fears that the final death toll could climb even higher once operations conclude.
Meanwhile, tragic scenes were witnessed in the native areas of the victims as grieving families performed the last rites. Funeral prayers for four of the deceased individuals have already been offered amid emotionally charged environments, with locals, relatives, and community leaders participating in large numbers. District administration officials have visited the affected families, assuring them of full support during this harrowing time while urging motorists and drivers to exercise extreme caution on rural roads alongside water channels to prevent such heartbreaking disasters in the future.
