LAHORE (The COW News Digital) Former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram has expressed concern over the health of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, saying political differences should not come in the way of ensuring proper medical care for the incarcerated leader.
Speaking in an interview with an international media outlet, Akram said he had not spoken to Imran Khan for around three years but continued to regard him as a friend, mentor and an important figure in his life and cricket career.
Akram said political issues were separate from humanitarian concerns and stressed that there should be no compromise when it comes to Imran Khan’s health.
The former fast bowler said he remained concerned despite statements issued by the government regarding the former prime minister’s condition. He added that he wanted to know the reality of Imran Khan’s health and how he was actually doing while in prison.
“Politics is one thing, but there should be no compromise on his health,” Akram said while discussing his concerns over his former captain.
Imran Khan, who has been in prison amid a number of legal cases, remains a major political figure in Pakistan. His health and access to medical facilities have repeatedly attracted public and political attention.
Akram also spoke emotionally about his relationship with the former Pakistan captain, describing him as someone he continues to miss as both a friend and mentor. Although the two have not been in direct contact for several years, Akram said his personal respect for Imran Khan remained intact.
The comments come as concerns about Imran Khan’s health have generated reactions beyond Pakistan’s political circles. Several figures from the international cricket community have also voiced support for ensuring his basic rights and access to appropriate medical care.
According to the report, 22 former international cricket captains have appealed to the Pakistani government to ensure Imran Khan’s fundamental rights and medical needs. Current Australian captain Pat Cummins has also reportedly expressed concern over his health.
The growing attention from former and current cricket personalities highlights the continued influence of Imran Khan within the global cricket community, where he remains remembered as one of Pakistan’s most prominent captains.
