PESHAWAR(The COW News Digital) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has welcomed the convening of the Apex Committee meeting in Peshawar under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, emphasizing that coordinated and effective measures at both federal and provincial levels are crucial for eradicating terrorism. However, he raised sharp questions regarding the federal government’s decision to disburse Rs 160 billion to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, asking why these essential funds were withheld previously.
While extending complete support for collective counter-terrorism initiatives, Barrister Gohar voiced strong reservations regarding political developments in the province, including discussions surrounding potential governor’s rule, a state of emergency, and the detention of provincial assembly members.
Reiterating that terrorism is a national scourge that must be eliminated without exception, the PTI chairman stressed that federal and provincial administrations must work in unison. He maintained that securing the country against ongoing security challenges requires unhindered resource allocation and genuine cooperation.
Questioning the newly announced financial package, Barrister Gohar demanded official documentation and transparent clarification regarding the Rs 160 billion allocation. He asked under which specific budget head the funds were designated, what the disbursement mechanism entails, and over what timeframe the amount will be released.
Addressing administrative actions, Barrister Gohar criticized threats of governor’s rule and emergency decrees, claiming these steps undermine the democratic mandate of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He also condemned the detention of PTI provincial assembly members under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance, calling the move entirely unwarranted.
Clarifying recent remarks concerning party ranks, Barrister Gohar dismissed rumors of a separate forward bloc among provincial lawmakers. He explained that a previous statement by party leader Salman Akram Raja was made in error, affirming that all seven affected MPAs remain firmly united behind the party leadership.
