Germany Announces €114m Development Package for Pakistan

Germany( The COW News Digital)Germany has announced a €114 million (approximately 11.4 crore euros) development cooperation package for Pakistan, aimed at advancing environmental protection, renewable energy initiatives, economic sustainability, and social welfare. The announcement came after successful bilateral negotiations between Pakistan and Germany held in Islamabad on Wednesday, marking a continuation of long-standing development collaboration between the two countries.

The talks were jointly chaired by Secretary of Economic Affairs Division (EAD) Muhammad Hameer Karim and Dr. Christine Toetzke, Director General at Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). German Ambassador to Pakistan, Anna Lepel, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Germany, Saqlain Syeda, also attended the session, reaffirming mutual commitment to strengthening institutional ties and expanding development partnerships.

Under the 2025–2026 cooperation framework, the newly approved development package will focus on key priority sectors including climate and environmental protection, renewable and clean energy transition, technical and vocational training, sustainable economic growth, and support for social protection systems. The cooperation also aligns with Pakistan’s national economic transformation initiative titled “Uraan Pakistan,” which emphasizes green development, employment generation, and economic resilience.

Secretary Muhammad Hameer Karim expressed gratitude to the German government for its long-standing and consistent support to Pakistan’s development journey. He acknowledged Germany’s significant contributions in enhancing Pakistan’s renewable energy capacity, job creation initiatives, and strengthening social safety nets. He emphasized the importance of aligning future cooperation with Pakistan’s broader economic reforms and growth-focused strategies.

On the other hand, Dr. Toetzke appreciated Pakistan’s ongoing reform efforts and reiterated Germany’s commitment to supporting Pakistan in tackling climate vulnerability, improving governance frameworks, and promoting inclusive economic opportunities. She highlighted that Germany views Pakistan as a key partner in promoting sustainable development and regional stability.

German Ambassador Anna Lepel also praised the resilience and shared aspirations of the people of both countries, noting that Germany holds its friendship with Pakistan in high regard and will continue to promote collaboration in technology, capacity-building, clean energy, and youth development sectors.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides signed a formal summary document endorsing the new funding package and reaffirming their commitment to expand cooperation. The next round of bilateral development consultations is scheduled to take place in Berlin in 2027.
