ATHENS ( The COW News Digital) Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has accused Israel of trying to “wipe out an entire nation,” saying that whatever mistreatment she and fellow activists faced in custody is insignificant compared to the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza.
Thunberg and dozens of activists were arrested by Israeli forces while attempting to breach the Gaza blockade as part of the “Global Sumud Flotilla,” an initiative aimed at delivering humanitarian aid to the besieged enclave. Following their release, the activists were transferred to Greece, where they received a warm welcome from pro-Palestinian supporters.
Reports indicate that the detainees endured harsh treatment during custody, including physical abuse, sleep deprivation, hunger, and confinement in cages. Several activists claimed they were blindfolded, beaten, and even forced to hold Israeli flags against their will.
Speaking in Athens, Thunberg said, “What is happening in Gaza is genocide. International organizations have completely failed to prevent war crimes and have deceived the Palestinian people.”
She continued, “Whatever happened to us does not matter. The real atrocity is what’s happening in Gaza, where people are dying of hunger and Israel is violating international law by blocking humanitarian aid.”
Her remarks have sparked widespread attention, highlighting growing global outrage over Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza, which has entered its second year and left tens of thousands dead and millions displaced.
