Hamas Urges Pressure on Israel to Honor Truce Deal

Gaza/Cairo( The COW News Digital) The Palestinian resistance group Hamas has urged the international community to exert pressure on Israel to ensure full compliance with the ongoing ceasefire agreement in Gaza, warning that repeated violations could jeopardize fragile peace efforts.

In a statement released on Friday, Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem accused Israel of continuing to breach the truce, claiming that “since the ceasefire began, 90 Palestinians have been martyred in Israeli attacks.” He further alleged that Israel’s actions — including the closure of the Rafah border crossing and obstruction of humanitarian aid deliveries — were deliberate attempts to undermine the agreement.

“Hamas calls on world powers, particularly the United States, to compel Israel to respect the terms of the ceasefire,” Qassem said, emphasizing that the movement remains committed to upholding the peace accord brokered earlier this month.

According to Arab media reports, Hamas has received written guarantees from Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye to support and monitor the implementation of the truce. The United States has also confirmed its backing of the mediation efforts.

“The success and continuity of the Gaza peace agreement depend on international oversight and pressure on Israel to cease its violations,” the spokesperson added.

In a rare acknowledgment, Hamas welcomed Washington’s stance against Israel’s annexation of the occupied West Bank, calling it a “positive step toward peace.” Qassem stated that Hamas views the U.S. position as a sign of shifting international awareness regarding the illegality of Israel’s expansionist policies.

He also revealed that Hamas had fulfilled the first phase of the truce agreement, which included the release of several Israeli hostages and the handover of bodies of deceased captives to Israeli authorities — a move aimed at demonstrating goodwill and ensuring continued humanitarian cooperation.

Despite these steps, the situation on the ground remains volatile, with aid agencies warning of worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza due to Israel’s restrictions on food, medicine, and fuel. The World Health Organization and other international organizations have criticized Israel for deliberately blocking relief convoys to famine-hit areas.

Observers say the coming days will be critical in determining whether the ceasefire holds or collapses under renewed hostilities, as Hamas insists on accountability and global intervention to preserve what it calls a “hard-won opportunity for peace.”
