DARWIN: Bangladesh created cricket history by defeating Australia for the very first time in Test match cricket, winning the opening match of the series in Darwin with an impressive performance.
Chasing a modest target of 57 runs in their second innings, Bangladesh comfortably reached the goal for the loss of just one wicket. Earlier in the match, the hosts were bundled out for 198 runs in their first innings. In response, Bangladesh put up a commanding total of 426, securing a massive first-innings lead of 228 runs.
Although Australian all-rounder Cameron Green fought back with a resilient century in the second innings, helping his side post 284 runs, it failed to set a challenging target for the visitors. Bangladesh efficiently chased down the 57-run target to seal a landmark victory.
Fast bowler Hasan Mahmud starred with a phenomenal bowling performance, bagging 9 wickets in the match, while Mehidy Hasan chipped in with 5 crucial scalps. For Australia, Josh Hazlewood was the standout bowler, claiming 7 wickets.
