ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has launched a nationwide protest movement today, staging major sit-ins across all four provinces to demand an immediate reduction in the petroleum levy and soaring fuel prices.
According to details, the party has organized high-profile demonstrations outside the Governor Houses in Karachi, Peshawar, and Quetta, while a massive historic march is underway toward the Chief Minister House in Lahore. JI Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman is leading the charge, urging the youth and the general public to step out and stand firm for their economic rights.
Addressing supporters prior to the demonstrations, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman stated that the party’s demands are crystal clear: abolish the extortionist petroleum levy and slash fuel prices immediately. He emphasized that the continuous surge in petroleum products creates a devastating domino effect, pushing the prices of all essential commodities beyond the reach of the common man and intensifying inflation nationwide.
Sources within the party revealed that a comprehensive 15-day schedule for the sit-in outside the Karachi Governor House has already been finalized to sustain pressure on the federal government. The demonstrations officially commenced at 3:00 PM local time, witnessing a massive turnout of citizens demanding immediate relief.
This escalation follows last week’s nationwide demonstrations, where JI protested at over 500 locations across Pakistan against oppressive taxation on energy and petroleum. Political analysts view this aggressive strategy as a major challenge to the government’s economic policies, signaling a tense political climate as opposition parties rally public sentiment around the cost-of-living crisis.
