TEL AVIV: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed that Iran made an attempt to assassinate one of his sons, though he refrained from providing specific operational details or confirming whether the target was Yair or Avner Netanyahu.

Speaking during a telephone interview with the pro-government broadcaster Channel 14, Prime Minister Netanyahu alleged that Iranian operatives targeted his son in an assassination plot.

According to reports by Israel’s Channel 12, the alleged attempt took place while his elder son, Yair Netanyahu, was residing abroad. However, the report did not clarify whether Yair was the primary target of the operation. Local media outlets noted that Israeli security agencies were aware of the situation for several months but maintained strict confidentiality under military censorship guidelines.

Reports by The Times of Israel suggest that Netanyahu’s statements are being viewed in the context of defending a recent Shin Bet agreement aimed at expanding security coverage for his family, including lifetime security details for his wife, Sara Netanyahu. Iranian officials have not officially responded to the accusations.
