NATIONAL ( The cow news digital ) A major financial irregularity has been reported at the historic Data Darbar shrine in Lahore, where authorities have launched an investigation into the alleged theft of millions of rupees from cash donation boxes.

The Punjab Auqaf Department has taken notice of the incident and removed two managers from their positions after an initial inquiry found responsibility linked to administrative failures. Officials have also ordered the recovery of around Rs125 million from those allegedly involved.

According to reports, the alleged theft came to light after concerns were raised regarding the funds collected from cash boxes installed at Data Darbar. The Auqaf Department immediately initiated an investigation to determine how the missing funds occurred and whether other individuals were involved.

Officials said further investigations are underway and additional action will be taken against anyone found responsible. Authorities are reviewing financial records and management procedures related to the collection and handling of donations at the shrine.

Punjab Minister for Auqaf and Religious Affairs Chaudhry Shafay Hussain said that donations placed in shrine cash boxes are a public trust and must be protected through strict monitoring and accountability.

He stated that incidents involving the misuse of funds collected at religious sites would not be tolerated. The minister added that efforts are being made to ensure transparency and eliminate corruption from the department’s operations.

As part of these reforms, the Punjab government has decided to introduce a modern digital monitoring system for cash boxes installed at shrines across the province. The new system aims to improve record keeping, increase transparency, and reduce the chances of financial misconduct.

The Auqaf Department said the updated monitoring policy will include continuous oversight of financial matters at shrines, ensuring that donations are properly recorded and managed.

Data Darbar, one of Lahore’s most significant religious and historical sites, receives donations from thousands of visitors every day. The management of these funds has remained a sensitive issue due to the large amount of public contributions collected at major shrines.

Officials have assured that strict measures will be implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future and maintain public confidence in the administration of religious institutions.

The investigation into the alleged theft is continuing, and authorities are expected to announce further details after the completion of the inquiry.
