New Delhi(The COW News Digital) A girl facing legal action over allegedly making offensive remarks against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar has issued a public apology, describing the incident as her “first and last mistake.”
A video circulating on social media shows the girl expressing regret over her comments, claiming she was influenced by others during the July 23 protest. In the video, she apologizes to the people of India and says she deeply regrets her actions.
“I was misled during the protest and made very inappropriate remarks against the Prime Minister. I sincerely apologize to the entire country. I feel ashamed and request everyone to forgive me,” she says in the widely shared clip.
However, the case has drawn additional attention due to a discrepancy regarding the girl’s age. While the First Information Report (FIR) reportedly lists her age as 25, the girl claims in the apology video that she is only 15 years old. The authenticity of the viral video and the age claim has not been independently verified.
The legal proceedings began after a complaint was filed at a police station in Noida on Wednesday regarding the girl’s alleged remarks. Based on the complaint, Noida Police registered a Zero FIR, which was later transferred to the Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also commented on the controversy. Referring to the alleged use of offensive language against both himself and his late mother during the Jantar Mantar protest, Modi expressed sadness over the incident but urged the public to show compassion.
In a video message shared on Instagram late Friday, the Prime Minister appealed to citizens to forgive what he described as “misguided children,” saying that while the remarks were hurtful, reconciliation and understanding were important.
The incident has sparked widespread debate on social media over freedom of expression, accountability during public demonstrations, and the treatment of minors in politically sensitive cases. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the ongoing investigation.
