RAWALPINDI( The COW News Digital) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has announced a protest in Peshawar on Friday against the recent Muridke incident, calling for the establishment of a judicial commission to investigate the matter. The jailed former prime minister also demanded inquiries against Islamabad’s Inspector General of Police and Punjab Governor Mohsin Naqvi.
The announcement was conveyed by Khan’s sister Noreen Niazi and Aleema Khan after meeting him at Adiala Jail during the hearing of the Toshakhana 2 case. Speaking to reporters, Noreen Niazi said Imran Khan condemned what he described as the “mass killing” in Lahore’s Muridke area, terming it the fourth major tragedy in the past three years after May 9, November 26, and the Kashmir incident.
According to Niazi, Imran Khan said, “Our own institutions—army, police, and rangers—are killing their own people. The IGP Islamabad and Mohsin Naqvi must be held accountable.” He reportedly urged PTI supporters to take to the streets peacefully in protest and demand justice through a judicial commission.
Khan’s sister added that he believes the people of Pakistan have become unsafe in their own country and must stand united for justice and accountability. “He wants the nation to rise for peace and stability,” she said.
Imran Khan also commented on Pakistan’s Afghan policy, criticizing the government’s deportation drive against Afghan refugees. “Afghanistan is our neighbor. After three generations, Afghans are being sent back. Dictators never bring peace,” Khan was quoted as saying.
In a significant remark, he offered to help mediate between Pakistan and Afghanistan if released on parole, saying he could personally work toward a resolution through dialogue. “Peace only comes through negotiation, not suppression,” he reportedly told his visitors.
Meanwhile, Aleema Khan, speaking to media outside the prison, provided updates on the Toshakhana 2 and Al-Qadir Trust cases. She said the PTI legal team had requested the court to adjourn the Toshakhana hearing until Monday, but the request was denied, and the case would continue tomorrow.
Aleema added that both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi had been proven innocent in the Toshakhana case and expected that “the judge is now preparing to deliver a verdict soon.” She also expressed concern over an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) indictment against her regarding a November 2024 protest, claiming the charge sheet lacked her signature or thumbprint.
