Gaza City( The COW News Digital) Israel has reinstated a ceasefire in Gaza following a series of devastating airstrikes that left 42 Palestinians dead, including several women and children. The renewed truce came after international mediation efforts intensified amid growing outrage over the latest bloodshed.
According to Palestinian officials, the ceasefire’s restoration was confirmed late Sunday night, with talks underway to establish a mechanism to prevent further violations. The discussions are being facilitated by Egypt, Turkey, Qatar, and the United States, who have all played a role in mediating between Israel and Hamas over the past several months.
Witnesses reported that Israeli fighter jets targeted multiple locations across southern Gaza, including tent settlements for displaced civilians and the Nuseirat refugee camp. In Khan Younis’s northwestern district, dense residential areas were reduced to rubble as dozens of families fled for safety.
Palestinian medical teams described scenes of chaos as hospitals struggled to cope with the influx of wounded victims. “Entire families were wiped out,” said a health worker in Deir al-Balah. “These were not militants — they were ordinary people trying to survive.”
The Israeli military claimed that the airstrikes were directed at “Hamas military positions” and that 120 rockets were fired at alleged operational centers. However, Hamas officials have strongly denied these claims, accusing Israel of fabricating threats to justify renewed aggression.
In a statement released Monday morning, a Hamas spokesperson said: “Israel is deliberately creating excuses to restart the war. The world must hold it accountable for the massacre of civilians.”
According to Gaza’s health authorities, since October 10 — when a ceasefire was initially announced — the death toll in Israeli attacks has climbed to 98, underscoring the fragility of the truce.
International organizations have condemned the renewed violence, urging both parties to respect the ceasefire and prioritize humanitarian access to the besieged enclave.
Following the airstrikes, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that “a ceasefire has now been reimposed in Gaza,” though analysts warn that the agreement remains precarious given the lack of mutual trust and ongoing border tensions.
As Gaza mourns yet another tragedy, aid groups continue to call for an immediate investigation into the strikes that hit civilian camps — a stark reminder of the human cost of this enduring conflict.
