According to official data released by the provincial health department, a total of 894 HIV cases have been reported in Sindh during the first three months of 2026. Alarmingly, 329 of these cases involve children, highlighting a growing health crisis that experts say requires urgent attention.
Out of the infected children, 188 are boys while 141 are girls, reflecting a wide spread of the infection across both genders. Health officials have also noted that, on average, three to four new pediatric HIV cases are being reported daily in the province, indicating continued transmission and gaps in prevention efforts.
Monthly breakdown of the data shows that 294 new cases were recorded in January, followed by 324 in February and 276 in March. Authorities say the figures suggest a persistent trend rather than a short-term spike, making it more challenging for health systems to contain the spread effectively.
Medical experts have expressed concern over the rising number of infections among children and have called for stronger screening, awareness campaigns, and improved healthcare interventions at the community level. They emphasize that early detection and treatment are critical in controlling the spread of HIV and reducing long-term health complications.
Health specialists further point out that prevention programs, especially in rural and underprivileged areas, need to be strengthened to address the root causes of transmission.
