According to the Lahore High Court Bar Association and Lahore Bar Association, the decision was taken during an emergency meeting where members expressed strong opposition to the rising fuel costs. The legal community stated that the increase in petroleum prices has placed an additional financial burden on the public, including professionals and litigants.
Bar representatives confirmed that lawyers will abstain from court appearances today, while only urgent and essential cases will be taken up in the Lahore High Court. Proceedings in subordinate courts across Lahore are expected to remain largely suspended due to the strike.
The spokesperson for the legal bodies said that the protest is specifically aimed at the government’s decision to raise petroleum prices. He emphasized that the boycott is intended to highlight public concerns and pressure authorities to reconsider the recent adjustments in fuel rates.
The president of the Lahore High Court Bar Association reiterated that the increase in petroleum prices is unacceptable and has directly impacted citizens from all walks of life. He added that lawyers will not appear in courts as part of a peaceful protest, which they believe is necessary to protect public interest and uphold transparency within the justice system.
