Karachi (The COW News Digital)After days of sweltering heat and suffocating humidity, residents of Karachi breathed a sigh of relief on Tuesday as light to moderate showers hit various parts of the city, transforming the weather into a pleasant respite.
The rain, which began early in the morning, spread across multiple neighborhoods. According to local reports, Clifton, Defence, Qayyumabad, and Shahrah-e-Faisal experienced light to moderate showers, while heavier downpours were reported in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Federal B. Area, Scheme 33, and Safora Chowrangi.
Eyewitnesses described sudden bursts of rainfall in several densely populated areas, including North Karachi, Old City Area, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and Nazimabad, where residents welcomed the showers after weeks of persistent heat. Express News reported that showers varied in intensity, with some areas receiving a steady drizzle and others experiencing heavier rainfall.
Other neighborhoods such as Jamia Tur Rashid, Ahsanabad, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Dastagir, Hasan Square, University Road, and Surjani Town also reported intermittent rainfall. In the southern districts, Malir Cantonment, Quaidabad, Jinnah International Airport, and Korangi saw drizzle that significantly cooled temperatures and brought temporary relief.
Residents stepped out of their homes to enjoy the refreshing weather, with many families visiting open spaces and tea stalls to celebrate the seasonal change. Social media platforms were flooded with videos and pictures showing rain-drenched streets, children playing, and commuters navigating wet roads.
Meteorological officials confirmed that the rainfall was part of an active monsoon system currently affecting southern Sindh. They added that while the showers helped reduce heat stress, isolated heavy rains could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas of Karachi.
Traffic police advised motorists to exercise caution due to slippery roads and potential traffic congestion in areas prone to flooding. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) also deployed emergency teams to address drainage issues.
For citizens who had endured weeks of intense humidity, the rainfall provided a much-needed break. “It feels like a blessing after the unbearable heat,” said Ahmed Khan, a resident of Gulshan-e-Iqbal. “We just hope the rain doesn’t turn into urban flooding.”
As showers continued throughout the day, Karachiites welcomed the change, hoping for a balance between relief and safety in the days ahead.
