NEW YORK(The COW News Digital) WhatsApp is testing a new feature that could significantly change how users access Status updates within the app. According to reports, the messaging platform is working on integrating Status updates directly into the top app bar, making them more visible and easier to access without leaving the main chat interface.
The top app bar is the section where users typically see their profile icon and other key navigation options. Under the proposed update, users will be able to tap on this area to instantly view recent Status updates. The move is aimed at streamlining navigation and reducing the number of steps required to check updates shared by contacts.
In addition to the top bar integration, the company is also experimenting with displaying frequently viewed contacts’ Status updates at the top of the chat tab. This means users could see Status posts from people they interact with most, without switching to a separate Status screen. The feature is expected to enhance engagement by placing updates in a more prominent position within the app’s primary interface.

Reports suggest that developers are testing multiple layouts to determine the most user-friendly design. One of the concepts under review includes a horizontal row of circular profile icons appearing when users scroll down within the chat tab. These icons would display recent Status updates in a format similar to other social media story features.
The initiative reflects WhatsApp’s broader efforts to refine user experience and maintain competitiveness in the rapidly evolving messaging landscape. By bringing Status updates closer to the chat feed, the platform appears to be focusing on convenience and faster content discovery.
However, the feature is currently in the experimental phase and is being tested with a limited number of beta users. There is no official confirmation on when, or if, the update will be rolled out to all users globally. As with many features under development, final implementation could vary based on user feedback and performance testing results.
Industry observers note that such interface adjustments often aim to increase daily interaction within the app while keeping navigation simple and intuitive.
