Islamabad( The COW News Digital)Pakistan has officially welcomed the recent wave of recognitions of Palestine as an independent state by several Western nations, including France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Portugal. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar expressed Islamabad’s strong support for these moves, calling them an important step toward achieving lasting peace in the Middle East.
Speaking at the United Nations Headquarters, where he attended a high-level international conference co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France on the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian question and the implementation of the two-state solution, Dar reiterated Pakistan’s long-standing commitment to the Palestinian cause.
“Pakistan had the honor of being among the first countries to recognize the State of Palestine following its declaration of independence in 1988,” Dar said. He emphasized that the recent recognitions by Western nations are a positive development that aligns with international law and strengthens the global consensus in favor of a just and lasting peace.
Dar urged all countries that have yet to recognize Palestine to follow suit, stressing that such recognitions are not merely symbolic but a crucial step toward ensuring justice, stability, and the protection of the rights of the Palestinian people. “This is a moment for the international community to act in line with its commitment to international law and support the creation of a viable and independent Palestinian state,” he said.
The deputy prime minister noted that the ongoing conflict in Gaza has made it even more urgent to revive efforts for peace. He called on world powers to use their influence to end hostilities and resume meaningful negotiations between Israel and Palestine, paving the way for the two-state solution envisioned by the United Nations.
Dar’s statement comes in the wake of France’s recent announcement recognizing Palestine as an independent state, joining the growing list of nations that have taken this step. International observers believe this shift in diplomatic momentum could increase pressure on other countries, particularly in Europe and North America, to make similar decisions and push for renewed peace efforts in the region.
With tensions in Gaza and the West Bank still high, Pakistan has reiterated its unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination, calling the latest recognitions a step in the right direction toward achieving long-awaited peace in the Middle East.
