Islamabad: (The COW News Digital) Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court Justice Aminuddin Khan has stressed that the Constitution must remain the foremost consideration in the exercise of authority, saying adherence to the constitutional framework is essential for maintaining stability in society.

Addressing a ceremony marking the opening of the new judicial year at the Federal Constitutional Court, Justice Aminuddin Khan said the beginning of a new judicial year provided an opportunity to renew the commitment to delivering justice.

He said the Federal Constitutional Court was effectively fulfilling its responsibilities in constitutional matters and had delivered decisions in several significant cases within a relatively short period since its establishment.

“Constitutional principles must be given priority in every exercise of authority,” the chief justice said, adding that the Constitution clearly defines the powers and limits of state institutions.

Justice Aminuddin Khan emphasized that respect for constitutional boundaries was vital for strengthening institutional stability and ensuring a functioning system of justice. He maintained that access to justice was a fundamental right of every citizen and that providing constitutional justice without discrimination should remain a key priority.

The chief justice also highlighted the importance of adopting modern technology in judicial affairs. He said technological tools could improve institutional capacity, transparency and efficiency within the justice system.

He further said that cases were being scheduled for hearings through a transparent process, while judicial independence remained a fundamental pillar of any democratic society.

According to Justice Aminuddin Khan, cooperation within the judicial sector was also being strengthened through international visits and other professional engagements. He said visits by bar associations and other delegations to the Federal Constitutional Court were important for promoting greater interaction between the bench and the legal community.

He reaffirmed that the court would continue performing its assigned constitutional responsibilities with commitment and determination. He also expressed a resolve to further strengthen cooperation between the bench and bar and to enhance public confidence in the justice system.

Speaking at the ceremony, Pakistan Bar Council Vice Chairman Masood Chishti praised Justice Aminuddin Khan for his leadership of the Federal Constitutional Court.

Chishti said establishing the institutional structure of a Federal Constitutional Court was a major challenge, adding that the court had so far carried out its constitutional responsibilities with seriousness, balance and constitutional insight.

He expressed hope that the court would eventually serve as a source of guiding principles for Pakistan’s constitutional and legal system, particularly in upholding constitutional supremacy and protecting fundamental rights.

Chishti also called for the Federal Constitutional Court to introduce video-link facilities for litigants at the earliest, saying improved technological access could make judicial proceedings more accessible to citizens.
