Islamabad(The COW News Digital)The Islamabad-Peshawar Toll Plaza was closed overnight as preparations intensified ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march scheduled for September 27.
According to reports, authorities have also blocked the section of the M-1 Motorway between the Islamabad Toll Plaza and Chachh Interchange for all traffic. A heavy trailer was placed on the road to prevent vehicles from passing through the route.
The closures come as authorities step up security arrangements in anticipation of the planned PTI demonstration. National Highways and Motorway Police teams are expected to remain deployed at key locations, with assistance from Punjab Police.
Sources said Islamabad Police has also started arranging personnel and resources ahead of the march. Members of the Anti-Riot Force have reportedly been briefed and are being equipped with weapons and other necessary equipment.
The preparations are aimed at managing potential crowds and maintaining security around sensitive routes and entry points into the federal capital.
Authorities have also provided Islamabad Police with net launchers for crowd-control operations. The equipment is designed to deploy nets using a launcher and can be used by law enforcement to restrain individuals during an operation.
The deployment of additional equipment and personnel comes as security agencies prepare for possible movement of protesters toward Islamabad on September 27.
The closure of the Islamabad-Peshawar Toll Plaza and the route toward Chachh is expected to affect traffic travelling between the capital and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Motorists have been advised to remain aware of changing traffic arrangements and possible diversions.
The National Highways and Motorway Police will continue monitoring the affected routes, while Punjab Police personnel are expected to assist with security arrangements.
The PTI has announced its long march for September 27, while authorities in Islamabad have been increasing security measures and preparing for possible demonstrations in and around the capital.
With the march date approaching, security and traffic arrangements are expected to remain under review, particularly at major entry routes connecting Islamabad with Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
