KARACHI (The COW News Digial ) The Judicial Commission investigating the Mir Raza case has directed that a notice be issued to Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, following a heated exchange during Tuesday’s proceedings.
Mir Raza’s father and sister appeared before the commission along with police surgeon Dr Samia. They responded to several questions raised during the hearing concerning the investigation and forensic evidence.
During the proceedings, Advocate Jibran Nasir told the commission that samples collected from Mir Raza’s body were sent to the laboratory after a delay. The commission questioned whether such samples had a specific shelf life and whether the delay could affect forensic findings.
Dr Samia explained that, generally, such delays do not make a significant difference. However, she said that if a particular chemical trace was not detected because of the delay, it would not be possible to determine whether the delay was responsible for the absence of that evidence.
She further noted that delays are generally avoided in high-profile cases because forensic evidence can be important to the investigation.
The proceedings became tense when the Advocate General of Sindh objected to Advocate Jibran Nasir asking questions, arguing that questions should be put forward by the commission itself.
The commission rejected the objection and questioned why the provincial government had an issue with the victim’s family asking questions.
The commission also questioned whether the government was attempting to conceal anything during the proceedings.
Expressing concern over the conduct of the provincial government’s representative, the commission said a notice should be issued to Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar to appear before it.
The commission observed that, given the circumstances and the conduct during the hearing, the home minister should be called to explain his position.
Following the intervention by the Advocate General of Sindh, the commission temporarily suspended the proceedings and directed that a formal notice be issued to Lanjar.
The development comes as the commission continues examining evidence and testimony related to the Mir Raza case, including forensic material and the handling of evidence collected during the investigation.
