Islamabad (The COW News Digital ) The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has likened a case concerning the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest planned for September 27 to a potential constitutional crisis, highlighting the sensitivity of the matter and ordering a broader judicial hearing.
Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court Justice Sarfraz Dogar made the observation while hearing a petition related to the proposed PTI protest. The court decided to constitute a larger bench to hear the case, reflecting the importance and wider legal implications of the dispute.
Taking note of the seriousness of the situation, the court issued a notice to the Attorney General for Pakistan. The move comes as the court considers questions surrounding the planned demonstration and the responsibilities of federal and provincial authorities in maintaining public order while dealing with political activities.
The Islamabad High Court also summoned the inspector generals of police (IGPs) of all four provinces, along with the respective provincial advocates general. The officials have been directed to appear before the court in person.
In addition, Islamabad’s Chief Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and Inspector General of Police have also been summoned in their personal capacity. Their appearance is expected to provide the court with details regarding administrative preparations, security arrangements and the authorities’ position concerning the proposed PTI gathering.
The court’s remarks underscore the increasingly sensitive legal and political dimensions surrounding public demonstrations in the federal capital. The planned September 27 protest has emerged as a matter requiring coordination between federal, provincial and Islamabad’s local authorities.
By treating the issue as potentially linked to a constitutional crisis, the court has signalled that the proceedings could involve questions extending beyond routine administrative or security concerns.
The decision to form a larger bench is also expected to bring greater judicial scrutiny to the petition and the issues raised before the court.
