RAWALPINDI(The COW News Digital) More than 100 active workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have been detained in Rawalpindi Division ahead of the party’s planned march towards Islamabad on September 27, according to police sources.
The sources said the PTI workers have been placed under detention for 30 days at Adiala Jail under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (3-MPO) ordinance.
According to police officials, the detention orders were issued on the recommendations of the District Intelligence Committee. A total of 106 PTI activists from different districts of Rawalpindi Division have reportedly been detained as authorities step up security measures ahead of the announced protest.
The breakdown provided by police sources shows that 31 PTI workers were detained from Rawalpindi, while 35 were taken into custody from Attock. Another 23 activists were detained from Chakwal, 13 from Jhelum and four from Wah Cantonment.
The move comes days before PTI’s planned September 27 march towards Islamabad. Party leaders have announced that supporters from different areas will participate in demonstrations and mobilise in response to the political situation.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan recently said the party would move towards Islamabad peacefully from the province. He said participants from other cities would not necessarily travel to the federal capital but would instead organise activities in their respective areas.
According to Shafi Jan, people from cities located along the route from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa towards Islamabad would join the march, while other supporters would observe shutdowns or demonstrations in their own cities.
He also warned that the PTI would move towards Islamabad with full strength, saying the party was coming to challenge what he described as the existing system.
The planned march has raised concerns over possible clashes between protesters and law-enforcement agencies, while authorities appear to be taking preventive measures to contain political mobilisation.
The latest detentions have not been independently verified beyond the police sources cited in the report. The PTI has yet to provide a detailed public response regarding the reported detention of all 106 activists.
The development comes amid heightened political tensions in the country, with PTI continuing to press its demands through public mobilisation and protests.
