Islamabad (The COW News Digital) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Ministry of Petroleum to take action against petrol pumps allegedly failing to pass on fuel-related relief to the public, following complaints from consumers.

Addressing a federal cabinet meeting, the prime minister said the government had received reports that certain petrol pumps were not providing the promised relief to customers.

He instructed the petroleum minister to take strict action against the outlets involved, stressing that consumers should receive the benefits of the government’s decisions.

Shehbaz Sharif said a Rs15-per-litre increase in petrol prices had been expected on Friday. However, he claimed that timely government decisions had prevented the proposed hike, providing relief to the public.

The prime minister emphasised that the government was taking measures to ease the financial burden on citizens amid continuing concerns over fuel prices and the cost of living.

He also declared that the era of the LPG mafia had come to an end, saying the government would import liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to ensure its availability and provide relief to consumers.

The announcement comes amid concerns about the supply and pricing of LPG, which is widely used by households across the country. The government’s proposed imports are aimed at improving supply and reducing the impact of market pressures on consumers.

During his address, the prime minister also discussed the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying that security remained the government’s first, second and third priority for the province.

Shehbaz Sharif further announced that a Rs160 billion package for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been finalised on the previous day.

The package is expected to be part of the government’s broader efforts concerning the province, although details of its allocation and implementation were not provided in the reported remarks.

The prime minister’s instructions regarding petrol pumps indicate that the government intends to monitor whether fuel retailers are complying with its pricing and relief measures.

Consumers have frequently raised concerns over fuel prices and the implementation of government announcements at retail outlets. The latest directive places responsibility on the petroleum ministry to investigate complaints and ensure compliance.

Further details regarding the action against petrol pumps and the implementation of the Rs160 billion package for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are expected to emerge from the relevant authorities.
