ISLAMABAD(The COW News Digital) Top opposition leaders have demanded that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directly extend a formal invitation for political dialogue, warning that talks cannot proceed with those who ridicule the negotiation process.
Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, and Senate Opposition Leader Raja Nasir Abbas outlined their stance on parliamentary integrity, national unity, and ongoing political friction.
Achakzai emphasized that political speeches delivered within parliament represent national history and must be accurately recorded without distortion. “We have to fight for our rights even inside Parliament,” Achakzai stated, urging that the Speaker’s powers be exercised strictly in accordance with written parliamentary rules. He questioned the selective issuance of production orders for detained lawmakers and reiterated that the opposition remains committed to defending democracy against non-democratic forces. He also called for an impartial parliamentary committee, headed by Khawaja Asif, to investigate corruption allegations surrounding current government projects.
Echoing these concerns, Barrister Gohar expressed frustration over the treatment of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stressing that patriotism should not be selectively judged. He strongly criticized the recent destruction of PTI inaugurational plaques in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stating that such actions provoke public outrage and deepen political divisions. “We are loyal to Pakistan and the state, and we will continue to fight for democracy,” Barrister Gohar asserted while renewing demands for access to the party’s founder in prison.
Senator Raja Nasir Abbas added that restoring public trust, enforcing the rule of law, and protecting the electoral mandate are essential prerequisites for solving Pakistan’s ongoing political and economic crises.
