ISLAMABAD (The COW News Digital) In a scathing joint letter smuggled from prison through their legal counsel, incarcerated leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)—including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Ejaz Chaudhry, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, and Sarfraz Cheema—have launched a fierce critique against the federal and provincial governments, accusing them of gross misgovernance, economic mismanagement, and indifference toward the plight of ordinary citizens.
The leaders—referencing the timeless adage “As you sow, so shall you reap”—argued that soaring petroleum prices have plunged the nation into total chaos. According to the letter, an alarming 42 percent of the population now lives below the poverty line, struggling to afford even a single daily meal. The letter highlights that soaring malnutrition among children, a lack of basic medical facilities, and critical drug shortages in hospitals have made daily life in Punjab exceptionally difficult.
Directing sharp criticism at the ruling Sharif family, the PTI leaders accused them of acting like monarchs while the masses suffer. They questioned the rationale behind acquiring a luxury private aircraft for the Punjab Chief Minister, asking how the administration can justify such extravagant spending when citizens lack basic food security. The text points out that nearly 10 million children remain out of school, clean drinking water is largely confined to the elite, and the agricultural sector—the backbone of the economy—has been devastated due to the withdrawal of fuel subsidies while sugar cartels prioritize exports.
Furthermore, the prison dispatch labels the law-and-order situation as deplorable, citing a Senate committee report indicating that 80 percent of child abuse cases nationwide are reported in Punjab. The leaders asserted that the ruling elite’s luxurious lifestyle reflects a widening chasm between the government and the public.
Concluding their message, the PTI figures condemned the alleged mistreatment of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s elected Chief Minister, warning that such actions deepen a sense of alienation in the province, and offered prayers for the nation’s deliverance from its current hardships.
