Peshawar (The COW News Digital) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has urged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan not to withdraw from the party’s demands for a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan and his transfer to a hospital.
According to sources, Barrister Gohar contacted Chief Minister Sohail Afridi after meeting government representatives and briefed him on the latest developments in talks between the government and the opposition.
Sources said Sohail Afridi told Barrister Gohar that PTI should not compromise on its demand for access to Imran Khan and his transfer to a hospital. The chief minister reportedly stressed that these demands should remain part of the party’s position during negotiations with the government.
The development comes as PTI leadership prepares for further consultations over talks with the government. Party leaders are expected to meet in Peshawar to discuss the outcome of the negotiations and determine the party’s position ahead of the next round of talks.
Barrister Gohar and other senior PTI leaders have reportedly travelled from Islamabad to Peshawar for the consultations. According to the report, Barrister Gohar is expected to brief the party leadership on the discussions with the government after arriving in the provincial capital.
Sohail Afridi also reached the PTI secretariat in Peshawar as preparations continued for the party’s planned long march. A fundraising campaign for the march has also been launched, with PTI workers contributing money at the party office.
Party supporters were seen depositing donations into collection boxes in the presence of the chief minister. The fundraising drive is part of PTI’s preparations for the planned political activity and mobilisation of its workers.
Speaking about the negotiations, Sohail Afridi said he had not yet received complete details of the talks with the government. He added that Barrister Gohar was expected to arrive in Peshawar later in the night and would brief the media regarding the discussions.
The PTI leadership’s meeting in Peshawar is expected to focus on the government’s proposals, the party’s demands concerning Imran Khan and the strategy for the next round of negotiations.
The talks between the government and opposition come amid heightened political activity and preparations for PTI’s planned long march. The party has been holding consultations among its senior leadership to determine its position on negotiations while simultaneously organising supporters and fundraising activities.
