Bushra Bibi, wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, was shifted back to Adiala Jail after undergoing an eye operation at a private medical facility in Rawalpindi. The surgery was conducted after she reportedly complained of deteriorating vision in her right eye, prompting jail authorities to arrange specialist medical evaluation and treatment.
Her legal team has now intensified efforts in the Islamabad High Court seeking an expedited hearing on her application for suspension of sentence on medical grounds. Senior lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar has filed a fresh petition requesting urgent consideration of the pending plea, citing what he describes as a medical emergency situation.
The petition also raises concerns regarding access to legal counsel and family members during her treatment. It claims that neither her lawyers nor family were formally informed prior to the surgical procedure. The application argues that such communication is essential under legal and human rights standards, particularly in cases involving incarcerated individuals requiring medical intervention.
According to the petition, Bushra Bibi underwent surgery at Al-Shifa Eye Hospital in Rawalpindi after necessary medical tests were completed. The legal team contends that her condition required close post-operative monitoring and transparency regarding her treatment and detention conditions.
The plea further states that after the surgery, she was returned to jail despite what her lawyers describe as a “serious medical condition.” It also alleges that family members observed her wearing dark glasses during a brief meeting at the prison, raising additional concerns about her recovery and care.
