National ( The cow news digital ) Senator Maulana Atta-ur-Rehman of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan (Maulana Atta-ur-Rehman) has strongly criticized both the federal and provincial governments over the worsening security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, warning that continued neglect of the province could have serious national consequences.
Speaking in the Senate, the JUI senator described the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as deeply alarming, claiming that the province had been left vulnerable to militant elements. He said violence and instability were increasing in several districts, particularly in areas such as Lakki Marwat, where residents were reportedly facing frequent security incidents.
He alleged that citizens in affected regions were effectively “confined to their homes,” stating that normal life was being disrupted and security conditions had deteriorated significantly. The senator further claimed that bloodshed in the province was being treated lightly and urged authorities to take immediate notice of the situation.
Maulana Atta-ur-Rehman cautioned that continued disregard for the concerns of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan could deepen political and social divisions. He stressed that raising concerns over security should not be interpreted as disloyalty, adding that his party remained committed to the unity of the country while demanding protection for vulnerable populations.
He also called for an in-camera parliamentary briefing on the security situation, arguing that lawmakers were not being given adequate opportunity to discuss the growing unrest and its implications. According to him, transparency and informed debate were essential for addressing the crisis effectively.
Responding to the senator’s remarks, Federal Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry rejected the impression that concerns over terrorism were being ignored. He stated that the armed forces and security institutions were actively engaged in combating militant threats across the country.
The minister highlighted recent attacks in areas such as Bannu and Lakki Marwat, describing them as attempts by militants to target soft locations. He reaffirmed the government’s resolve, along with that of the military leadership and the public, to eliminate terrorism from Pakistan.
Tariq Fazal Chaudhry also emphasized that terrorism is a national issue affecting multiple regions, not confined to any single province. He reiterated that Pakistan’s unity remains strong and said there was no question of the country being divided.
The exchange underscored growing political tensions over security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where repeated incidents of violence continue to raise concerns among lawmakers and the public alike.
