National ( The cow news digital ) Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has said that the Kisan Card initiative is bringing significant economic relief to farmers across the province and helping them achieve greater financial independence.

In an official statement, Maryam Nawaz highlighted the progress of the agricultural support program, stating that more than 832,000 farmers have been issued Kisan Cards for the first time across Punjab. She said the initiative is enabling growers to access agricultural financing and essential farm inputs without relying on traditional middlemen or informal lenders.

According to the chief minister, farmers have collectively obtained agricultural loans amounting to Rs254 billion through the program. During the wheat cultivation season, beneficiaries used the facility to purchase agricultural inputs worth approximately Rs100 billion, helping improve productivity and support farming activities.

Maryam Nawaz noted that the repayment performance of farmers has been encouraging. She said that out of Rs67 billion in recoverable loans from over 538,000 farmers, an impressive recovery rate of 86 percent has been achieved. Farmers have already repaid Rs57 billion in installments, demonstrating financial discipline and confidence in the program.

The chief minister further stated that Rs90 billion has been made available to farmers for purchasing agricultural inputs for the Kharif crop season. So far, around 300,000 farmers have utilized the Kisan Card to obtain agricultural supplies worth Rs30 billion.

Emphasizing the broader objectives of the initiative, Maryam Nawaz said the government aims to strengthen the agricultural sector by ensuring easier access to financing, modern inputs, and economic opportunities. She added that the program is designed to reduce farmers’ dependence on private creditors and provide them with a sustainable path toward prosperity.

“The dream is to see Punjab’s farmers financially empowered and prosperous,” she said, adding that agriculture remains a key pillar of the province’s economy and a priority area for the government.

The Kisan Card program is part of Punjab’s wider agricultural reform agenda, which seeks to improve productivity, support rural livelihoods, and promote financial inclusion among farmers. Officials believe that continued participation and strong repayment rates will help expand the program’s reach and benefits in the coming years.

Agricultural stakeholders have welcomed measures aimed at improving access to credit, viewing them as an important step toward strengthening the farming community and boosting agricultural growth in Punjab.
