World ( The cow news digital ) Lahore, April 20, 2026 — Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has highlighted the growing importance of the Chinese language in strengthening economic and trade relations with China, stating that linguistic skills are becoming essential for deeper engagement with one of the world’s largest markets.
In her message on the occasion of the International Chinese Language Day, Maryam Nawaz extended greetings to the Chinese people and emphasized that proficiency in Chinese is no longer optional but a necessity for countries and professionals seeking to benefit from China’s expanding global influence.
She noted that nearly 1.4 billion people around the world speak Chinese, making it one of the most widely spoken languages globally. According to her statement, the language has gained exceptional significance in international affairs due to China’s growing political, diplomatic, and economic presence.
The Chief Minister further stated that Chinese is one of the six official languages of the United Nations, reflecting its global recognition and institutional importance. She praised China’s rapid development over the past decades, calling it a model of progress and stability that continues to contribute to global peace, economic growth, and cooperation.
Maryam Nawaz stressed that learning Chinese can play a key role in further strengthening Pakistan-China relations, especially in trade, investment, education, and cultural exchange. She added that Pakistan must prepare its workforce to meet the demands of evolving international partnerships, particularly with China’s expanding Belt and Road Initiative.
In a notable development, she also revealed that Punjab Police personnel assigned to the security of Chinese citizens in Pakistan are being trained in the Chinese language. This initiative aims to improve communication, enhance coordination, and ensure better security arrangements for Chinese nationals working on various projects in the province.
