Islamabad (The COW News Digital) Pakistan and Indonesia have signed seven agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to enhance cooperation across multiple sectors, including higher education, health, trade, and security. The signing ceremony took place at the Prime Minister’s House, attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
Following the ceremony, both leaders addressed a joint press conference, highlighting the long-standing ties between the two countries. Prime Minister Sharif welcomed President Subianto to Pakistan and described the discussions as “positive and forward-looking,” emphasizing that Pakistan-Indonesia relations have consistently endured challenges over the years.

Among the agreements signed were MoUs aimed at promoting small and medium-sized enterprises, preserving historical documents, curbing drug trafficking, and enhancing halal trade certification. A key focus of the agreements is collaboration in health and medical services, with Pakistani doctors, medical professors, and specialists scheduled to visit Indonesia as part of exchange programs.
In the field of higher education, the two countries agreed on a scholarship program enabling Pakistani students to pursue advanced studies in Indonesia. This initiative aims to strengthen academic exchange and professional training between the nations.
Prime Minister Sharif highlighted discussions on balancing bilateral trade, vocational training, and medical collaboration. He reiterated Pakistan’s historical solidarity with Indonesia, recalling the support extended by Indonesia during the 1965 war and emphasizing shared positions on international issues, including the situation in Gaza, condemning violations of ceasefire agreements by Israel.
President Subianto praised the hospitality extended by Pakistan and described the ceremonial flypast of JF-17 Thunder aircraft in Pakistan’s airspace as a distinct honor. He expressed Indonesia’s commitment to deepening collaboration in education, trade, agriculture, technology, and health, welcoming initiatives aimed at further strengthening bilateral ties.
The agreements mark a significant step in Pakistan-Indonesia relations, which span over 75 years. Both nations emphasized their commitment to leveraging shared historical and cultural bonds to promote mutual development. Experts note that these initiatives, particularly in education and healthcare, are expected to foster long-term professional exchange, build capacity, and create opportunities for students, professionals, and businesses in both countries.
The visit and agreements also signal a strengthened diplomatic partnership, reinforcing regional cooperation and highlighting the countries’ shared commitment to addressing global challenges collaboratively.
